Serial explorer, psychiatrist and clean tech ambassador
It is in his genes to go beyond conventional wisdom to achieve the impossible. Born into a legendary line of explorers and scientists who have conquered the stratosphere and the abyss, Bertrand Piccard has made history by achieving two major aeronautical firsts: a non-stop round-the-world balloon flight and, more recently, a solar-powered plane without fuel.
Apioneer in his approach to considering ecology through the prism of economic profitability, he has been promoting renewable energies and clean technologies since the early 2000s. His dual identity as a physician-psychiatrist and explorer has made him a voice heard by the largest institutions, which today consider him an opinion leader on the themes of innovation and sustainable development.
Initiator and president of the Solar Impulse Foundation, he has successfully completed the challenge of selecting 1000 efficient solutions to protect the environment in a cost-effective way. In a third round-the-world trip, he wants to bring them to political and economic decision-makers, in order to help them achieve their ecological objectives, while enabling clean growth. Bertrand is now a United Nations Ambassador for the Environment and a special advisor to the European Commission.
