Maud Fontenoy is above all a sailing enthusiast. Her exploits in the 2000s have earned her a strong reputation among the general public. A proponent of a realistic ecology, her speeches aim to raise awareness of the need to preserve biodiversity.
Born on 7 September 1977. Maud spent a large part of her teenage years at sea learning about navigation, nature and the sea.
At the age of 25, in order to make her dreams come true, she undertook a maritime and human adventure that lasted 5 years. In 2003, she set off to row across the North Atlantic, alone and without assistance. A first for women that she completed in 4 months. Two years later, in 2005, she successfully completed the same crazy challenge in the Pacific between Peru and the Marquesas Islands. She was then elected Personality of the Year by Time Magazine. Finally, in 2007, Maud set off from Reunion Island for a round-the-world race against the current, under sail and without assistance, which ended 150 days later, after crossing three capes and a dismasting from which she emerged in extremis.
Having spent more time of her life on the seas than on dry land, she never stops talking about the visible effects of pollution and global warming on the oceans she knows well. With the support of scientists, and in particular through the actions she carries out within the framework of her foundation, in partnership with the French Ministry of Education, Maud strives to educate the younger generation, to give them simple instructions so that "sustainable development" becomes accessible to all and that Ecology also rhymes with Economy.
