A specialist in ocean biodiversity, his research mainly concerns the physiology of adaptation to the environment in fish. Gilles Boeuf asks us. If life goes back to exactly the way it was, a new epidemic will strike. "What will we do then? Will we recontaminate?"
Born on 6 November 1960 in Saint Nazaire. After a postgraduate degree in biological oceanography, Gilles Bœuf obtained a postgraduate degree in developmental biology, followed by a State Doctorate in Natural Sciences in 1987 in Brest.
He was also a visiting professor at the Collège de France for the 2013-2014 academic year, in the " Sustainable Development, Energy, Environment and Society " Chair, and dedicated his teaching to the interactions between biodiversity and humanity. He was scientific advisor to Ségolène Royal, then Minister of the Environment, Energy and the Sea, for two years.
He gives numerous lectures in France and abroad on theocean, biodiversity, adaptation to the environment, the role of water in life and marine living resources. He was very involved in the events of the international year 2010, dedicated to biodiversity, with more than 60 conferences: opening of the UNESCO symposium in Paris in January, opening of the French biodiversity week in Chamonix in May, etc. He took an active part, while at the Ministry, in the organisation of the COP21 in Paris in December 2015.
Everyone must contribute to the building, by imagining, by moving forward, and above all by sharing their knowledge and their desire to do so, in order to overcome the fears that we may have.

Now based in Bordeaux, he continues to lecture on biodiversity in France and abroad.
On 3 February 2021, he was appointed to the National Consultative Ethics Committee for Life Sciences and Health by the Minister of Education.
Since 2021, he has been a regional councillor for Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Gironde department), elected on the majority list of A.Rousset (PS-PCF-MRG)
